Gas Safety Training - Laboratory and Workshop
Speck & Burke offers structured, half-day training courses designed for users of laboratory and workshop gas systems. These sessions include both theoretical and practical elements to ensure that anyone operating or working around gas systems does so safely, confidently and in full compliance with current regulations.
All courses are delivered by an experienced trainer with over 30 years in the industry, ensuring practical relevance and a deep understanding of real-world challenges.
Course Format
Each session includes:
- Theory Training – Approximately 2.5 hours
- Practical Session – 30 to 40 minutes
Training is delivered on-site at your premises, minimising disruption and ensuring relevance to your working environment.
Course Content
The syllabus covers the following key areas:
- Safe and legal use of laboratory and workshop gas systems
- An introduction to relevant regulations and Codes of Practice, including key differences
- Common definitions and terminology
- Legal responsibilities of gas system owners
- Overview of typical gas system hardware and control devices
- Regulator functions and how they work
- Protective devices built into gas systems
- Selecting and operating the correct regulator for a given task
- Safe handling and replacement of gas cylinders
- Identifying and managing risks from stored energy
- Mitigating hazards associated with asphyxiating, flammable, toxic and corrosive gases
- Correct use of gas fittings and common connection types
- Real-world examples from our in-house “Rogue’s Gallery” of unsafe practices
